Roam Beyond was born in 1978 as Sikkim Trekking & Travel Services ( STTS ) when the pioneer of the tourism industry in Sikkim, Yeshi Dorjee, son of the Late Serdup Dungzin Rinpoche – a high lama of the Royal Pemayangtse monastery and creator of the magnificent “Dzangdopalri” structure decided to introduce the Sikkim Himalayas to the world. Sikkim had just transitioned from being an independent Himalayan Kingdom to another state of India in 1975. It was only in the late 80s did Sikkim actively start welcoming visitors to the state and in 1990 a handful of tour operators founded the Travel Agents Association of Sikkim ( TAAS) of which Yeshi Dorjee became its founder President.

Over the years Sikkim Trekking has been proud to have been associated with such reputed outdoor travel magazines like “Outside”, “Summit”, “LA Travel” as well as having been the first Sikkim company to have guided the Singhalila range for four paying clients of the Italian club when it was opened for western tourists in 1999. In early 2000, Sikkim Trekking started working with Antioch University, Ohio for its Buddhist studies in Sikkim which is now part of Carlton College’s Buddhist studies pdrdogram and has been continuously working with them. In 2005, Sikkim Trekking collaborated with Loyola Marymount University, USA in setting up a full semester program in Sikkim and worked with the for a few semesters. Sikkim Trekking is also proud to have organized the Green lake Trek in North Sikkim for the Late George Band who was the first person to summit Mt Kanchendzonga along with many adventure and cultural organizations in Asia, Europe & North America. We are a small family run company and take pleasure in curating each program based on the needs and the requirements of the individuals and groups. Travelling with us gives you a genuine and authentic experience and allows you to have a better understanding of the people and culture of this region of the world.

The company is now under the direction of Yeshi Dorjee’s eldest son Pema Tsewang Topgyal who after obtaining a coveted degree in Engineering never had the desire to pursue it as a profession but decided to work with his father in taking Sikkim Trekking forward. With his early elementary education in a private boarding catholic school in Darjeeling, India as well as five years of schooling in California, USA, Pema has a unique perspective in understanding both the cultures of the East and the West. Apart from organizing treks to the various Himalayan region, we are also focus on Buddhist & Himalayan studies programs as well as tours to all remote parts of Sikkim, Bhutan & North east India which seeks travelers to not only just travel the trodden path but “Roam Beyond” their comfort zone and discover places where few have visited.

Come & Roam Beyond with US!

I would heartily recommend Sikkim Trekking ( Roam Beyond ). I cant imagine a better ambassador for the subcontinent or the Himalayas and anyone fortunate to travel with them will be richer for the experience.
